While we might struggle with the concept of a real and living God (and, if He is real, what He has to do with our lives), the reality and existence of Jesus can’t be denied. There is a great deal of written historical evidence, both from Christian and non-Christian writers, supporting the fact that Jesus was a genuine historical figure who lived at the beginning of the first century AD. Opinion might be divided as to who he was, but all agree on the fact that he existed.

God’s Son has all the brightness of God’s own glory and is like him in every way.

“By his own mighty word, he holds the universe together. After the Son had washed away our sins, he sat down at the right side of the glorious God in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:3, CEV). In fact, Jesus is at the very centre of the Gospel of Good News and we talk about him a lot!

Who Is Jesus

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:16-17, English Standard Version

We learn from the Bible that Jesus was the son of God. Human, yet miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit. Radiant with God’s glory and yet mortal, just like you and me. His existence was part of an extraordinary plan, put in place by a loving God. A plan to “save” mankind. What this means for us is profound and far reaching. It brings us to ask ourselves the deep and truly meaningful questions:

How Does Jesus Save Me? And Why?

The message of God’s word is so clear about His love for mankind and His desire to be at one with us. Yet, our sins separate us from God and from a whole and meaningful relationship with Him. We can never make up for our sins – not even by charitable works or good behaviour. Like Adam and Eve, who were driven from paradise, we are separated from God’s presence by the very fact of our humanity, ‘for there is not a single person on earth who is always good and never sins’ (Ecclesiastes 7:20). How then are we to bridge that gap? How do we find our way back to God?

The Good News is that there is nothing that we are required to do to heal that breach. God has done it for us through His son. Jesus is the bridge over which we cross to find our way back home to God. Believing in Jesus and choosing a new life “in him” brings us near to God again.

“Does Jesus Really Care About Me?”

The Answer Is Yes!

We know that Jesus loves us, because his Father loved us first. Jesus’ whole mission and existence was to bring about God’s purpose and outwork His plan for our lives. In fact, Jesus loved us so much, he was prepared to die for us. God has a plan for our lives, if we accept it. Turning from our old way of living, asking for forgiveness for our sins and choosing a new life in Jesus makes us part of His plan. This reconciles us with God and empowers us to live whole and meaningful lives, as part of His family.
